Futuristic pulsating cinematic groove with Chinese Erhu
This version of Hood Butterflies has no samples and was customized for use by a German company.
I created this version of Hood Butterflies for a German company to use in advertising. The original version of this song is a sample flip beat that I created some years back.
This was a cool experience for me because I was able to demonstrate my skills at converting the sample flip version into a complete original by actully performing the sample flip parts of the original song. The hardest part was finding the Chinese Erhu instrument.
After finding the erhu, I was able to perform what I flipped in the original version. Then, I layered various strings and other instruments to fill in the musical space. My client was very pleased with the result.
Here is a video that uses my moody instrumental music, Hood Butterflies, as a soundtrack. Published on Nov 5, 2012 (c) 2012 by Carsten Erkelenz & Thomas W. Geuting, music Produced by Taurus M. James (ASCAP) for ITNOJ Music (ASCAP).

In Part 1: - Propellerhead Reason - The Reason NN-XT Advanced Sampler - Chopping Samples: How I chop samples for sample flip beats - Flipping Samples: Why I use the Reason NN-XT advenced sampler to flip a sample - Using Frequency Filtering to make sample flip patterns stand out - Song Arrangement: Creating different sample flip patterns for each verse - Layering sample flip patterns - Track Preview
This video is about: reason beat making, sample flip beat, beat making video, sample chop, sample flip, flip a sample, chop a sample, sampling, music sampling, Sample Chopping, sample Flipping, Propellerhead Reason, NN-XT
My idea of sampling involves wrapping the re-arranged pieces of sampled music in heavy instrumentation and orchestration. Check out this video I made showing how I use sampled music to create epic moody instrumental music.
How to Make Beats: Wrapping the Samples in Sample Flip Beats
Watch how I make sample flip beats and instrumental music using Propellerhead's Reason software, the Akai MPD32 and the Yamaha DJX MIDI keyboard. This video takes you into my thought process about sampling, chopping and flipping sample, and I give you tips on how to make music.
"Van Morrison-Snow In San Anselmo", sound recording administered by: vanmorrisonofficial
In this video, I talk about using the Yamaha DJX MIDI Keyboard as a MIDI Controller for Propellerhead Reason 6.5 music software. I explain why I like using the DJX as a controller and how I have it connected to my PC. I also explain how I setup two different NNXT Advanced Sampler devices in Reason to allow me to compose piano parts separately. Since I am not a pianist, I have to create my "left-hand" parts (Chords) and "right-hand" parts (Melodies) separately and I use two different devices to manipulate the sounds of each part independently.
Even Still Part 1 of 5
This is one of my experimental piano/orchestrated tracks with more of a soulful sorrow that moves to a bit of brightness toward the end.
As much as they hurt, the thorns in my life remind me that I am still feeling.

Dear Taurus,I was searching on the internet to find out how I can possibly learn how to compose music. I write alot of lyrics but have the slightest clue on how to create music for them. Anyway I came across your website in the search engine and after listening to all, I mean every instrumental on here, I just had to tell you WOW!!! Your music is so heartfelt. Absolutely beautiful. And I must say very inspiring!!. Hopefully someday I can find a way to let myself be heard through music. Good Luck in all you do.Sincerely Deena
