Je Suis Amour features a sample (that I haven't found the ID for yet).
This sampled hip-hop beat was done in Propellerheads Reason 4.01, using the Akai MPD32 USB/MIDI controller and the M-Audio Oxygen8 v2 USB/MIDI Keyboard controller.

When I made this sample flip beat, I got a lot of comments about the piano part at the beginning being offbeat or our of sync with the rest of the beat. The people who made those comments didn't realize that I intentionally played the piano parts in an offbeat manner to lead into the way I smooth the track out during the verses. I knew that not everyone would understand or get that I was setting up a contrast in the very beginning.
Overall, this track is a smooth, RnB-type beat with some hard edges. I wanted it to be epic-sounding in the sense that I present two extremes - hardness and softness - at the same time before going into the distinct separations found in the verses. Again, not everyone will get or understand what I'm after when I put my Moody instruMental Music out there. That's okay.
I ended up re-making the track (Je Suis Amor C) without the contrasting intro. In the remake, I actually eliminated a lot of the smoothed out elements and just presented a straight-forward hard-hitting beat. The remake also has me playing most of the parts that I sampled in the original. That was a cool exercise, in which I mimicked the sounds from the sample flips using various instrument sounds in Propellerhead Reason. I was actually surprised that so many of the sound substitutes did not require a great deal of altering. For example, the orchestral stabs are already in the Reason Factory Sound Bank. I easily remade the main horn sample flip using trumpets and french horns. It all came together nicely with me playing the instruments the way I flipped the original sample.
