The Story Behind "ITNOJ: The Suffering"
I wrote this song with Curtis and John during one of our "jam sessions" at Second Baptist Church.
Curtis was practicing a guitar riff, when I heard the dirst part of this version of "ITNOJ" develop. Curtis played a long, mournful guitar note and went into a riff. I stopped him and asked him to play it again. Then I asked John to play his bass line from the original version of ITNOJ - and I had him slow it way down. With John on the bass line, I played the drums underneath.
We captured "The Suffering" on the spot with a tape recording in the church sanctuary.
