My Thoughts On Sampling and Making Sample Flip Beats

My Thoughts On Sampling and Making Sample Flip Beats

My Thoughts On Sampling and Making Sample Flip Beats by Taurus M. James

When I started making sample flip beats (beats with samples from other artists), it was never my intention to steal from the artists I sampled from. In fact, I thought of the derivative works I created as my personal tributes to the artists. Regardless of what I thought, I am convinced that my actions, specifically in posting the derivative works here on TaurusBeats.com with a price to download, were wrong.

Therefore, all beats, instrumentals, tracks, music, songs, (or whatever you want to call them) that contain samples from other artists will be downloadable at no charge. Also, derivative works that contain samples will not be available for licensing.

I cannot give you permission to use a derivative work that I have created, with a sample that I do not own, in your production. However, I will make the beats/music available for licensing WITHOUT the samples.

I was wrong for making my derivative works ("sample flip beats" aka beats containing samples) available for purchase here at TaurusBeats.com. Now you can download them for free.

This is the result of my continued research into the whole realm of sampling in music. I am still trying to figure out what I can and cannot do when it comes to sampling. I am working in different areas of the site now and I will be posting as much of the details as I can about the artists that I have sampled from.

I really do look at sampling as an art and I know that without sampling, Hip-Hop would not even exist. However, it does not matter what I think. I am researching the sampling laws here in the United States and learning that it is not clear whether sampling is legal or illegal. There are provisions for derivative works with samples in the law, but at this time, I'm not sure how to make sample flip beats in accordance with the law.

This is an ongoing matter for me and I will continue to post updates, sharing my thoughts on the issue of sampling and making sample flip beats - legally. In the meantime, I will me updating this website to remove pricing from sample flip beats that have made.

Grace and Peace!
