A Subscriber Question about Mastering in Reason:

Hey man, i really like your beats and especially your sound. And i was wondering if you master your beats in reason or with another program because they always sound really good to me. And when i want to get a certain sound in reason my stuff seems to overdrive most of the time.

Why I Don't Master My Beats or Music with Reason

My Response:

First, I must make it clear that while Propellerheads Reason 4 (and above) does have the "MClass Mastering Suite" of devices, I do not recommend that you master your own music within Reason. Mastering is a process that should be done separately from your production/mixing work. it should be physically separate - in a different location - and a separate individual should master your tracks for you - this gets fresh, independent ears on your tracks.

That said, i do use the Mastering Suite within Propellerheads Reason 4, but not in the "mastering" sense. I use these devices for fine tuning my mix - so, I'm still "mixing" with these devices in order to get MY final mix (before I send it to be mastered).

I'm glad that you think that my beats sound really good. Most of the time, you are hearing my final (un-mastered) mix that I did completely within Reason. So, my latest collections of beats and music demonstrate what can be done in Reason. high quality mixing can definitely be achieved within Reason, but it takes a lot of time and trial and error to develop your ear for improving your "mixing" skills.

Taurus you are so talented. You can really tell that there is emotion behind your music and that it's is not just some notes put together. I appreciate your art. Its a beautiful picture.

Taurus - ur stuff is the *ting* man i'm tellin ya. I also learned that your a drummer - me to! When I was a kid I used to play around with the piano/keyboard in the 80's/90's (26yr old now). But I can't read music - I play by ear, just like you. You hit the pads & keys, (i gotta mpd32 to!;) in the same manner as me - it flows. I reckon we can play steel drums - even tho we never have! or maybe you have - i don't know! I'm luvin your youtube flix - keep em comin dood. Peace bruv Andy D, birmingham UK.
