Young Crush: Moody Reflections on Life's Awkward Moments
Ever had a crush when you were younger?
You remember the awkwardness—the nervous heartbeat skipping a beat, the clumsiness in every step, and the constant wondering, “Do they feel the same way?”
That's what inspired me to create "Young Crush," a reflective, downbeat track that dives deep into those raw feelings of uncertainty, longing, and vulnerability.
It's original moody mental music with a slow, chill tempo, combining elements of electronic piano, bass, drums, horns, guitar, and trumpet.
I didn't plan to make a beat about a "young crush" when I started. In fact, it began with a simple guitar loop.
But as I built the rest of the beat around it, I found myself reflecting on those clumsy moments from my younger years—trying to navigate emotions, while grappling with the fear of rejection.
The double kick drum intentionally mimics that irregular heartbeat you feel when you see someone you're drawn to.
The guitar loop symbolizes the sentimentality of those fleeting moments, while the trumpet signifies the fire that burns inside when feelings go unspoken.
Behind the Beat
This track came together in one of my daily music sessions, where I use Reason Studios Reason as my digital audio workstation.
With my Yamaha DJX MIDI keyboard, I layered piano chords, electric piano, sub-bass, and trumpets to humanize the experience—each note reflecting those tender, awkward moments we all know too well.
Whether you're relaxing, reminiscing, or vibing in the background, "Young Crush" offers that smooth, chilled atmosphere that will stir up memories.
This song is part of my journey to Help Other People Elevate in music and life.
