The Story Behind "By My Hand"
Where was I?
In 2007, my family was in the Los Angeles, California area (Del Air, close to LAX airport). I worked as a web developer in Venice Beach and Santa Monica.
Still a new dad, with a daughter almost 2 years old. I was in a reflective head space.
The Composition
By My Hand is a reflective, sad, introspective and somewhat dramatic music piece I made that can be used as a film music for those ominous and eerie scenes.
I feature the piano in this one with a repeating theme of sad introspection because I wanted to express the questioning sorrow I feel at times when death takes someone close.
I repeat the theme over a slow and steady backdrop of minimal drums and a changing, looping synth and guitar.
The ominous orchestra section darkens the mood of the track, but trumpets later turn the questioning feel into an exclamation.
Instruments
piano (featured), upright bass, drums, strings section, orchestra, trumpets section, horns, cellos
About my notes
It's always funny writing out notes to myself about this Moody (instru)Mental Music that I make. It's even funnier when I read what I write years later.
These notes aren't meant to make a whole lot of sense. I'm just trying to capture something about the music at the time that I create it.
Original Composition
This is one of my original compositions. I am playing (or programming) all of the instruments you hear. I used Propellerhead Reason, my computer, and my Yamaha DJX keyboard to produce this track.
Genre: Piano Music, DownTempo, Avant-garde
Mood(s): Somber, Dramatic, sad
Tempo: Slow, Very Slow
I made this one with my mind focused on grieving. I dedicate this one in loving memory of my uncle, Joseph Lockett.
This is Moody instruMental Music from the Heartwashed collection. Heartwashed is also known as Heartwashed: Exodus to Genesis. This collection of Moody instruMental Music contains my attempts at making avant-garde music. (That sounds cool - avant-garde...oooooh.) Avant-garde is defined as:
"new and unusual or experimental ideas, especially in the arts, or the people introducing them."
Hey, I'm just making music as it comes to me.
This stuff tends to be more "in-your-face" and rough, but the emotions are heavy and a bit raw. The instruments attack hard, but the music allows the feelings to run deep.
I think I have some good mood changes in this collection.
