The Story

I created this version of Hood Butterflies for a German company to use in advertising. The original version of this song is a sample flip beat that I created some years back.

This was a cool experience for me because I was able to demonstrate my skills at converting the sample flip version into a complete original by actully performing the sample flip parts of the original song. The hardest part was finding the Chinese Erhu instrument.

After finding the erhu, I was able to perform what I flipped in the original version. Then, I layered various strings and other instruments to fill in the musical space. My client was very pleased with the result.

The Video

Here is a video that uses my moody instrumental music, Hood Butterflies, as a soundtrack. Published on Nov 5, 2012 (c) 2012 by Carsten Erkelenz & Thomas W. Geuting, music Produced by Taurus M. James (ASCAP) for ITNOJ Music (ASCAP).

Genesis

Genesis takes me back to the beginning - the start - and brings to my mind the thoughts and feelings that come with starting over. The violin is the main voice in this song with a running piano melody throughout as the backdrop.

The violin laments while the piano keeps the track in motion. Trumpets provide accents and exclamations of determination while the angelic vocals try and provide a comfort to the deep hurt expressed by the violin melody.

Sunny Days

Piano Instrumental Music, Hip Hop, Original Music

Sunny Days is another one of my piano experiments in making moody instrumental music. (I should just call it piano music, but I'm still working on the whole piano-playing thing.)

My music compositions process was pretty much the same as always. First, I constructed the beat. Then, I developed a chord progression and bass line. Next, I developed melodies through piano improvisation. Finally, I wrapped the whole thing with orchestral instrumentation.

The final result of this piano-featured instrumental music reminds me of an interesting cross between part of the "Sesame Street" theme song and "Can You Stand The Rain" by New Edition (produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis).

My Favorite Part is the piano. The different expressions I came up with in the two verses are pretty cool, and the way I changed the mood in each verse is nice, too. Like a lot of my moody instrumental music, this song has a big ending that contrasts the beginning verse. You gotta listen to the whole song to get the changes.

I named this song "Sunny Days" because the music reminds me that storms and cloudy days don't last forever. I want to encourage people who listen to this moody instrumental to really appreciate the sunny days in life. Troubles don't last always. Dark storms give way to "Sunny Days".

Flo (Piano Freestyle)

Flo is the track that started this whole collection. I came up with the idea of making a collection with the same beat (structure) after creating this track. I wanted to see if I could develop a collection that canges moods while keeping the same pace. So much of what I make here on TaurusBeats.com has such a heavy emphasis on the BEATS, I wanted to make the actual beats less important. The challenge is to make each song interesting enough on its own to keep the collection as a whole from being boring.
